The Association of Royal Navy Officers (ARNO) is both a Charitable Trust and a Membership Association for serving and retired commissioned officers of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Queen Alexandra’s Royal Naval Nursing Service, the former Women’s Royal Naval Service and their respective reserves.

The Association was formed in 1920 with the principal objective of recovering retired pay that was withheld from naval officers who had been recalled to service in the 1914-1918 War. The Association was re-constituted in 1925 and has evolved over the years to meet the changing needs of the members. Today ARNO has over 8,000 members.

The Objectives of ARNO today:

  • To provide a means for officers to keep in contact and mutually support each other.
  • To offer members a range of activities, benefits and services which result in savings which comfortably outstrip the amount of the annual subscription.
  • To help and advise members, their wives, widows and dependents who are in need or distress of any kind.

The Association is administered by a Council which comprises serving and retired officers from all arms of the Royal Naval Service.
