Presenting the fourth in our exclusive series Views from the Fleet Flagship –

What is your role onboard?

I am the N2 (Second Navigator) onboard HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH. My day to day role sees me act as bridge manager, assist with enabling safe navigation, and the delivery of aviation. When not working my favourite way to unwind is by having a bowl in the Ship’s flight deck cricket nets and keeping in touch with my family, friends and partner back home.

What has the Ship been up to in the last fortnight?

The last fortnight has included a highly successful port visit to Augusta, Sicily. On a personal front this allowed a good chance to unwind, and the Bridge Team took the opportunity to sample some of the excellent local food and drink. Professionally it  was also highly rewarding, particularly conducting the Pilotage out, having charge of the Ship for her first exit from a non-English speaking foreign port, a busy harbour, with minimal safe room to manoeuvre for a Ship the size of QNLZ (at it’s most restrictive, just 80yds from point of danger). On sailing we’ve looked to refocus, and take a more operational mindset, and having been with the Ship throughout generation as the OOW1, its been satisfying to see the Ship transition from training, and generation, to real world operations.
