VE and VJ Day 2025

8th May & 15 August 2025

On Thursday 8th May, we will remember the contribution of all Allied Forces, including forces from across the Commonwealth, without who the liberation of Europe and Japan would not have been possible.

The Second World War had a profound impact on communities across the UK and the Commonwealth which continued long after the war came to an end. The challenges of leaving, longing for and returning home were experienced by many people at the time and are still faced by Service families today.

While VE Day marked the end of the war in Europe in May 1945, many thousands of Armed Forces personnel were still engaged in fighting in the Far East. Victory over Japan would come at a heavy price, and Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day) marks the day Japan surrendered on 15 August 1945, which ended the Second World War.
